Ask alumni about their favorite Birmingham-Southern memories, and more than likely, you’ll hear about Interim. This distinctly BSC experience will change you and change the way you think about learning.
Birmingham-Southern is built around a unique 4-1-4 academic calendar. Every January, you will explore one topic or interest in detail. Interim courses are interdisciplinary, allowing students to choose from a wide range of topics. Some of the more interesting topics include:
- “From Garden to Table: Examining Local Food Systems”
- “Baseball Statistics”
- "Music and Science Fiction”
Interim also offers a number of experiential learning opportunities that could take you far beyond the campus of Birmingham-Southern. Each year, you can take advantage of countless travel opportunities, both in the country and overseas. You might find yourself sailing a tall ship through the Caribbean or researching dolphins and coral reef habitats in Central America. You might find yourself on the back of an elephant in Asia or absorbed in the museums of Italy. Interim will forever change your opinion about the boundaries of the classroom. And those four Januaries might just become your favorite part of the BSC experience.
