They call Birmingham the Magic city; step off campus and see wwhy

Birmingham-Southern sits on the western edge of downtown Birmingham. The city has a vibrant arts and culture scene that will excite music, art and food enthusiast of all tastes. WorkPlay, a performance venue and creative space for musicians, filmmakers, and industry-related professionals to both work and play presents on eclectic line-up of live performances. The Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival, a celebration of new independent cinema, attracts filmmakers from around the world to screen their work in nine venues located within Birmingham’s historic Theatre District (featuring the newly restored Alabama Theatre, a 2,200 seat movie palace built by Paramount in 1927). The Alys Stephens Center, a world-class performing arts center on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is home to the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and also brings the world's brightest performers to Birmingham. The Birmingham Museum of Art features more than 24,000 objects to represent a rich panorama of cultures, including Asian, European, American, African, Pre-Columbian, and Native American. The museum also hosts the wildly popular Art on the Rocks party at the museum presenting up and coming musicians. Birmingham's pivotal role in the civil rights movement is on display at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

Birmingham’s City Center offers several restaurant districts including the exciting Lakeview and Five Points areas that are famous for some of the best dining in the region including Highlands Grill, Café Dupont, and Hot and Hot Fish Club. On most weekends you can enjoy an outdoor event or festival such as Art Walk, Magic City Art Connection, Greek and Lebanese Festivals, Chinese New Year, or the Crawfish Boil. Not to mention a night at the ballpark to see the Birmingham Barons minor league baseball team!
