Have you ever considered where your worldview and behavior patterns really come from? If you're like most, you probably haven't. Sociology-psychology, an interdisciplinary field that emerged in the U.S. in the 1920s, uses scientific methods to explain social interaction as characterized by individual behavior, thoughts, and personality development. The major covers three main domains: individual attitudes, interpersonal relationships, and group processes. The program is designed to help you see the methodological and theoretical relationships between sociology (the study of society) and psychology (the study of the human mind and behavior). If you select this major, you can continue your studies in a variety of graduate programs in psychology, sociology, or social work. Majoring in sociology-psychology also provides valuable training for a career in law, social work, public administration, or any health profession, among others. If you are interested in learning more about any of our majors and minors, you will find more information in the Disciplinary Majors and Minors section of the BSC Course Catalog. |
