How do sociological factors influence people’s political perceptions and choices? And how do social trends shape their levels of political action? The interdisciplinary sociology-political science major is a course of study that shows the interconnections between these two disciplines.Sociologists study the structures and processes of societies and share with political scientists a fascination with the resulting distribution and application of power to gain control of government. Both then seek to understand the subsequent exercise of power and authority in the United States and in other nations around the world. The major also provides fresh perspectives on social movements in light of increasing globalization. Students who choose this major may go on to graduate study in either discipline or pursue professional study in a field such as law, government/public service, or education. If you are interested in learning more about any of our majors and minors, you will find more information in the Disciplinary Majors and Minors section of the BSC Course Catalog. |
