Physics

The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible.-Albert Einstein

Why study physics at BSC?  The top five reasons:

Physics is relevant and versatile in our society

While studying topics ranging from subatomic particles to superclusters of galaxies, you will receive excellent preparation for any profession that depends upon analytical thinking skills. Physics majors are sought after in electronics firms, the aerospace industry, and research labs as society becomes increasingly dependent on science and technology.

Award-winning faculty

You will have the opportunity to learn with scholars of the highest caliber—those committed to teaching and research and who have received many national awards, including the prestigious 2009 CASE and Carnegie Award for Alabama Professor of the Year.

Our center for the study of the natural sciences

Our home is the Elton B. Stephens Science Center with over 10,000 square feet of state-of-the-art design featuring the latest in instruments and classroom/laboratory facilities.

Small class sizes and collaborative atmosphere

From designing and building a moon buggy to studying the motion of a ball in the air, physics professors at BSC work hard at getting you involved in the process of learning. You will work closely with faculty doing first-rate research and learning from guidance and by example.

3-2 engineering program

Physics is a component of BSC’s dual degree in engineering. If you enroll in our program, you get a degree in physics from BSC and an engineering degree from a cooperating institution.

If you are interested in learning more about any of our majors and minors, you will find more information in the Disciplinary Majors and Minors section of the BSC Course Catalog.
