The college’s newest academic program is designed to expose you to all aspects of the media—from traditional print and broadcast to film to art to digital systems to new media and more—by bringing together cutting-edge courses that are focused on media and culture, mass media, and media production. These three areas emphasize the historical and cultural understanding of text; the analysis of the psychological, sociological, and political impacts of mass media; and the critical examination of film and film production. Designed by more than 20 faculty members, the major is truly interdisciplinary in nature and will provide diverse perspectives from the humanities to the arts to the social sciences. A major in media and film studies consists of seven core courses, including an independent project or internship, along with four electives. After graduating, you will be prepared to go to graduate school for further study. While you’ll not be ready to anchor the news or enter your film at the Cannes Film Festival, your coursework, internships, independent projects, and master classes will give you the academic preparation you need to decide if a career in media is right for you. You’ll also have the liberal arts foundation you need to be successful in that career. To explore the media and film studies major further, visit their Web site. If you are interested in learning more about any of our majors and minors, you will find more information in the Disciplinary Majors and Minors section of the BSC Course Catalog. |
