Bienvenue! As the world continues to shrink due to increasing globalization, the command of a second language is becoming a necessity. French is the only language other than English spoken on five continents, and the third most widely spoken one in the U.S. (after Spanish and Chinese). It is also the language of diplomacy. At BSC, we will teach you the core skills that make up fluency of the language. Our popular program for French majors and minors is aimed at developing the following objectives: (a) an advanced degree of proficiency in the language which enables you to communicate effectively with native speakers, (b) a sound understanding of French culture, and (c) a basic knowledge of French literature with emphasis on the study of its masterpieces. We will also make sure that by the time you graduate, you "walk the talk": our revamped French major integrates a semester abroad, thus making sure that all students have an authentic experience in a French-speaking country. Proficiency in French is particularly useful if you are interested in a career in teaching (university or secondary level or bilingual program), international business, foreign service, research and technology, or the fine arts. To explore the french major at BSC further, visit their Web site. If you are interested in learning more about any of our majors and minors, you will find more information in the Disciplinary Majors and Minors section of the BSC Course Catalog. |
