But it is about getting computers to do something. The major in computer science involves active learning in computing and critical thinking skills to support programming software and to solve complex problems and challenges similar to those you’ll find in the real world. The study encompasses mathematical reasoning and concepts, networking, algorithm design and implementation, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, web design, and computer architecture.Computer science majors at BSC are not only well-grounded in computing fundamentals, but they are well-rounded academically as well. The computing work in the CS curriculum has strong connections with a wide range of other disciplines such as mathematics, music, art, the physical and social sciences, humanities, and philosophy. According to a recent national survey, computer science is a popular major on U.S. college campuses now. The Taulbee Survey found that the number of undergraduates signed up as CS majors rose 8.1% in 2008. Also, CS graduates are valued—often the key drivers of technological competitiveness and innovation at U.S. companies. The CS major at BSC is designed to prepare you to enter all sorts of careers in computing and/or graduate studies.
